Project Summary
The ADROIT (Advancing Digital Resilience and Online Inclusive Civic Engagement for Democratic Participation) project is a 24-month Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in Adult Education focused on strengthening civic participation, digital resilience, and democratic literacy among adult learners across Europe. The initiative addresses the growing challenges of political disengagement, misinformation, low trust in democratic institutions, and unequal access to civic education, especially among adults with fewer opportunities. Its central aim is to empower adult learners with the knowledge, critical thinking, and digital competences needed to engage actively and responsibly in democratic processes, both online and offline. The project combines civic education with digital literacy, recognizing that democratic participation increasingly happens in digital environments and requires resilience against disinformation, manipulation, and exclusion.
ADROIT is built around three interconnected pillars: research, digital resource development, and experiential training. First, it conducts comparative research and roundtables to map barriers to civic engagement and identify effective participatory practices across partner countries. These findings feed into the creation of the ADROIT Digital Democracy Library, an AI-supported online platform that acts as the project’s core innovation. This platform includes three main components: the Knowledge Hub, offering accessible learning resources on democracy, media literacy, and civic rights; the Citizen Agora, a space for moderated dialogue, debate, and policy discussion; and the Civic Action Lab, where learners can simulate or practice civic engagement tools such as petitions, advocacy campaigns, and participatory decision-making.
